Week 1: Encaustic
This class will introduce students to encaustic, a medium in which artists add coloured pigments to heated beeswax. Students will complete an image transfer project, as well as an encaustic painting using oil pigment sticks and encaustic paint.

Week 2: Coloured Pencil
This class is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of drawing with coloured pencils. New students will explore different layering and blending techniques while composing their own still life drawing on archival rag board.

Week 3: Watercolour
Watercolour paint, and techniques (including wet-on-wet, layering, painting negative shapes, and dry brush) will be introduced this week. Students will create their own watercolour painting while learning the foundations of the medium. Students will use handmade watercolour from the Stoneground Paint Co.

Week 4: Artist Ink Pen
This class will focus on how to use artist-grade ink pens to create expressive landscapes on archival rag board. Ink pens are ideal for drawing, as they lend vibrant colour to any creation. Students will learn about composition, layering colour, as well as other expressive drawing techniques.

Week 5: Pastel
Using coloured archival board, pastel pencils, and pan pastels, students will create a landscape inspired by the French Impressionists, while learning several different pastel techniques.
Date: Thursday, October 18th, 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Week 6: Mixed Media
This class is designed to introduce students to the use of several different mediums within one work of art. Different types of ink and conte crayon will be used on coloured archival paper to create a vibrant still life. Composition, layering, and basic blending techniques will be explored.
